Training and Media Coverage!

Wow what a crazy two weeks it has been! The bike that I'll be riding to Yorkshire is here, and I've been training with it. What a difference carrying a load on the back makes, it really does! Previously I had been cycling without a load. Pulling up hills is definately harder!

Media coverage of the forthcoming event has also shot through the roof, with doing an interview for Radio Gibraltar today and have been working very closely with the Gibraltar Society for Cancer Relief who are pulling out all the stops to get local covereage here to raise awarness for what I'm doing, which will ultimately encourage more people to sponsor and raise more money for this great cause!

The charity ride has also been mentioned today on the local South Yorkshire radio station, Hallam FM.

With all this going on, getting time to train has been tough! But I've been managing some, and getting out into the mountains in Spain in hot July temperatures. It read 42c on the cycle computer the other day whilst cycling up to Gaucin. It was tough work - very little shade, but I made it and I'm getting myself fitter and fitter and ready to take on this imense challenge!

Preparations and Training!

Well what an eventful couple of weeks it has been! Since getting the all clear and a go ahead for a September 4th launch, its been going crazy. We now have the live donation page up for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal live. The Gibraltar based charity will be added soon! You can start donating straight away, Donate now!!!

The Facebook group page is now up and running, join it to keep up with updates from there. Follow me on Twitter at @onlineamiga

I've ordered the bike which I will be using to do the run. A Revolution Country Explorer from Edinburgh Bicycle. A big thanks to the guys there for throwing in a free cycle top to support the cause! I've really had to take a shot in the dark on this one. As have had no way to test ride the bike, as I am nowhere near any of their stores being down in Gibraltar. But I bought the bike because its excellent value for money. The reason for doing the run is to prove that if I can do this, anyone can do it. Part of that is not having to spend thousands on equipment. This bike is just £650!

I've also completed my first 100 mile ride in one day - on the mountain bike! Infact not only did I complete 100 miles, I actually managed 130 by erm. well erm.. a slight navigational issue caused by a power outage on the blackberry. Which left me stranded on the side of a motorway at 11pm at night with no water, no food, no phone, and no energy to cycle any further. So was that fun. But alas, I persisted and managed to get myself home. It was a great test of human endurance. You can read the full story of that
http://bit.ly/cvw9rJ Which will take you to the Cycle Chat forum where I participate.

I am still looking for sponsors for the event. If you want your business advertising then please contact me (Click the Sponsor Me link at the side) and I will put you in touch with the PR guy for it.

Launch time is September 4th at Casemates in Gibraltar, if youre in the area pop down to say hi and wish me well. Will probably be organising a nice hearty English breakfast in the area as well before that in which people are welcome to join. More details to follow. The destination is Rotherham in South Yorkshire, my birth place and no doubt there will be parties there towards the september. WHEN I make it! More details soon. Keep an eye on the site. Invite everyone to the Facebook page, tell everyone and most of all get donating to these great causes!
